Mainstream support for Windows XP will end next Tuesday as Microsoft
withdraws telephone-based problem resolution and non-security fixes.
Windows XP is still the most popular operating system, accounting
for 63 per cent of all computers on the internet, compared with
just 24 per cent running Windows Vista. Microsoft also announced
that Windows XP users will need to perform a fresh install rather
than an upgrade when migrating to its forthcoming Windows 7 operating
system, due to reach the RC1 milestone very soon.

The BBC has launched a service that allows you to tune in to
live TV shows through your mobile. BBC Live TV, currently in beta,
streams video directly to certain Symbian S60 smartphones over a Wi-Fi
connection. Although BBC iPlayer is already available on certain handsets,
it only offers catch-up for previously broadcast shows. The BBC says
it plans to offer Live TV over 3G connections in the future.

A new search engine aims to gain market share by offering cash
giveaways for those who use it. Orpala, which launches next week, will
run a prize draw every day, with each search guaranteeing entry. This
isn't intended to be a short-term marketing campaign either, as the
company's founder expects the giveaways to last indefinitely.
