Diana Eng’s Fashion Geek book out next month

Posted: 24 Feb 2009 03:54 AM PST

fashiongeekIt’s been a while since we’ve talked about “Project Runway” alum and geek fashionista Diana Eng, hasn’t it? Last time we saw her was at the Maker Faire 06′ and then we heard she won the Yahoo Hack Day contest. Well the budding fashion designer has been busy working on her new book called Fashion Geek: Clothes Accessories Tech which is due out next month via Amazon. In the book, you’ll learn how to make Flowerbud Earbuds, digital lockets, nightlife necklaces, a light-up petal purse, and even a lightning bug costume.  It all looks so geek chic.  The book is available for your Kindle too, but you still have to pre-order it.

Motorola RAZR LúK goes to Korea

Posted: 24 Feb 2009 03:19 AM PST

Remember when phones were razor thin, simple, and flashy? Yeah, that was before everyone traded their sleek RAZRs for 3G iPhones and Blackberries. I miss my RAZR, not because it was the best, but because it fit in my back pocket and barely took up any space in my purse.  Lucky for some, the RAZR is still around (my Mom has one) and it continues to be shiny and pretty. Engadget spotted this white on gold beauty heading to Korea loaded with RAZR goodnes like 18k gold plating, video calling, Bluetooth, and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA.  It’s called the Motorola RAZR LúK and it is one luxury handset we will never see in the States.  With the economy the way it is, that’s probably a good thing.

Samsung SPH-W7100 now with personal alarm

Posted: 24 Feb 2009 02:40 AM PST

decibal-laregeI scream and punch at anything that startles me so I know I don’t need a personal alarm on my cell phone, but if you’re one to be paralyzed by fear, then a 100 decibel alarm on your mobile may not sound like such a crazy idea. In Korea, Samsung is marketing its SPH-W7100 with an  SOS function to women and children for peace of mind since the phone also alerts local authorities in case of an emergency. The phone features a ring that when pulled, will emit a loud sound then send your location via SMS to the police and your emergency contacts.  Engadget says the device has gained FCC approval here so the chances that something like this appears stateside seems very likely.

Bloggers meet Vivienne Tam

Posted: 23 Feb 2009 07:30 AM PST

vivienne_tam_nyc_hp-3First of all, I want to thank HP, Buzz Corps, Vivienne Tam, and all the talented bloggers I got to meet last week in New York.  I got really sick during my trip, but I managed to make it to most of the events and  even met the wonderful Vivienne Tam who welcomed us to her SoHo-chic boutique to get a sneak peek of her  Fall 2009 Collection which was to die for. I managed to interview Ms. Tam who told me the Peony design was about making women happy because the flower stands for happiness, and that she hopes to learn more about technology. She also tells me she hopes to design more accessories for the HP Mini and perhaps unveil another notebook soon. We had such a great time at her boutique which was full of  beautiful women admiring both Vivienne Tam’s new Fall 09′ collection as well as the Vivienne Tam HP Mini. One wall was even lined with HP Touchsmart computers so bloggers could update their blog while at the party! All in all, I was impressed by how gracious Ms. Tam was as she talked to her guests, signed their HP Minis in gold ink, and posed for pictures. She truly is awesome!

Siriano unveils vest for LG Lotus

Posted: 23 Feb 2009 06:21 AM PST

I’ve never been to Fashion Week in New York, so I was really excited when HP invited me to meet Vivienne Tam and LG invited me to meet Christian Siriano in the same week.  As you know, Christian Siriano partnered with  LG and even designed a fabulous scarf for the Lotus that debuted at Fashion Week last year. This year, the ‘Project Runway’ alum did it again by introducing a new a accessory for the trendy Lotus.  On Thursday, I headed to the Tents at Bryant Park to see the new fashionable garment make its way down the runway in the form of a beautiful satin chocolate-colored vest being worn by one of the models. The phone was half-hanging from her right hand pocket, which from far away didn’t make much sense, until you see the gold chain that clips to the phone to keep in place much like a pocket watch.  It’s not uncommon to think of phones as a time piece, but clipping one to the vest like a pocket watch is not the most practical way to carry a phone if you ask me. Nonetheless, the vest is as trendy as the Lotus, and I have no doubt this garment will also be a hit among Siriano fans.img_6538
